St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 475 East I Street, Benicia, California.

If this church is supposed to represent a loving and merciful Christ, I don't want to have anything to do with it. I am gay and my (now ex) partner (a devout Catholic) started attending this parish. I was raised Protestant and have always had a relationship with God, my loving creator, who loves me warts and all! I decided to support my boyfriend and attend this Parish despite knowing the Catholic church is anti gay. I met with the priest and asked if we'd be welcome as a gay couple. He said "just as long as you don't hold hands." We were unassuming anyway. At any rate, my ex BF wanted to sing in the choir as he's a trained singer. But, the priest would not let him because he is gay. The same boyfriend was also a recovering meth addict (2 years sober at the time), and mass was what helped him stay sober. I was attending al-anon in Benicia to support him and heard that this same parish wouldn't let a retarded boy sing in the choir either. At any rate, my now ex BF relapsed on meth shortly after this and I kicked him out of our house. I never felt comfortable at this church because I know God loves me as he made me. God does not make junk! I wish my ex BF would stop believing the garbage that the Catholic Church spews that gays are "inherently disordered" and "morally depraved." Maybe if my ex would have know God loves him as he is, he wouldn't always fall short of trying to prove himself to the Catholic church. It's that hidden guilt he has that makes him use drugs. I pray this church will be more open to hurting people, and pray for my ex BF.
